Nestled in the heart of Benoni, lies this “little gem”, Ebotse Links. This superb course has even dubbed by Peter Matkovich as one of his finest creations.
Ebotse, which means “a beautiful place”, is located in an old mining area where forsaken dams and quarry pits were turned into wide fairways and inviting ponds, providing Gauteng with a world-class links experience where golfers can truly feel the authenticity and escape from the city for a day.
Ebotse Links is the only inland Links course in South Africa, that also has an Aqua range (which is truly a unique and fun experience). Seven of the on-course holes have water surrounding them. Risk and reward is the name of the game with a fantastic layout meandering through old quarries and mounds to challenge your game.
The greens and fairways are superb. It is quiet, peaceful and a wonderfully designed course. The compliments from players continue to pour in. A definite destination stop on any persons bucket list specifications.
The course closes with an incredible par 5 and triple-decker clubhouse overlooking the Vanryn Dam. Another fantastic feature about the course is that it plays completely differently in the lush summer months as opposed to the dry highveld winter months, where it has more of that “true Links” feel with these firmer conditions.
Boasting an abundance in bird and wildlife, you never know who you may bump into around the next corner, with a mighty crew of springbok on the course, that can be a most welcome surprise and adds to the special experience that Ebotse Links offers.
Each hole is truly different from the next and puts most golfers to the test. You don’t really need to pull out your driver on that many holes. For the higher handicap players, something to bear in mind is that the fairways are very forgiving, and your 200-metre club is your best friend (especially in the winter months).
Added facilities include Doppio Zero, Katse fine dining restaurant, the Pot Bunker Golfer’s Bar, (a members bar which welcomes all Ebotse Links golf visitors to a crisp cold beer or cider on tap and is located on the upper level of the Ebotse Clubhouse and looks onto the 18th putting green and Ebotse dam). You can enjoy the breathtaking views with a sundowner after your inland links course experience. There are also mountain biking tracks, squash courts, tennis courts and a driving range.
The Grant Veenstra academy has groomed many of South Africa’s top of the crop. At the GVGA they strongly believe in the players having the ability to understand their swing, know their basics and in the end be able to essentially coach themselves. Their goal is to eventually move away from the coaching role and just become a second pair of eyes in the players maintenance regain. GVGA is dedicated to helping balance a professional life with training, learning life skills such as time management, accountability, social skills, study strategies etc. Book your assessment with Grant Veenstra on email@example.com.
