7 March 2023 – Dainfern College hosts its 22nd National College Golf Champs
The National College Golf Championship was hosted by Dainfern College at Dainfern Country Club for the 22nd year on 5-7 March 2023. This prestigious event is one of the most sought-after high school golf tournaments in the country. Both boys and girls participate and teams comprise three players. There is a team competition, with two scores to count, and an individual competition with a best gross format.
Twenty-eight teams from 22 schools across the country as well as neighbouring Zimbabwe participated this year. A vital part of this Championship is the inclusion each year of teams sent by the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) whose mission is to make golf accessible to all South Africans.

The Golf Champs are a major event on the Dainfern College calendar and it takes many months to put everything in place. The College arranges major sponsors as well as sponsors of prizes and individual holes while College staff and student public relations representatives are on hand during the tournament to ensure the event runs smoothly. Dainfern College gratefully acknowledges its generous sponsors this year: JB Active, Sunset Dentistry and Rocomama’s Dainfern.

The SAGDB combination of Tawriq Abrahams, Rezario Adams and Kael Strydom achieved the best overall performance in the team Gross competition this year. The St John’s College team of Jayden Hoskins, Calvin Brooks and Rory Crosley came second, while third place went to the Trinityhouse team of Jean du Toit, Alex Aliferis and Stuart Cloete. Dainfern College achieved a very creditable sixth place.
The Individual Gross event was won by Daniel Bennett from Curro Hazeldean; Jayden Hoskins from St John’s was the Individual runner-up and Liam Britz from Steyn City School came third. The top lady player was Casey Twidale from Curro Aurora while the Esprit de Corps award went to Nathan Kramer from St David’s Marist Inanda.
