Zidaan’s golfing story started when he was nine years old. He walked into the local sports store and met the owner Mr Suliman Mangera, who was chatting about his golfing experiences in relation to playing with his younger son. Zidaan took to his words and found an ambition pursuing golf. Inspiration and guidance from Uncle Solly lead him to Woodmead World of Golf and the Gary Player Academy which kicked off his amateur career. Zidaan is currently a member of Randpark Golf Club. His parents have always been his caddies throughout his golfing amateur career. Although Zidaan wishes to achieve a PGA status, he also aspires to become a pharmaceutical engineer, hoping that one day he can find a cure for the demeaning virus’s that plague our world.

What age were you when you started playing golf?
I was nine years old when I started playing.
Who inspired your interest in the game?
Mr Suliman Mangera.
Who is your golf idol?
Tiger Woods.
What is your favourite course ever played?
San Lameer Estate.
How often do you practice and what’s your routine?
I practice three times a week. A game of 9-holes on a Friday afternoon and a 18-holes on a Sunday is always good. Although my swing dimension has been compared to that of Rory Mcllroy, I try to follow Tiger Woods routine of warm-ups and his club selection order of practice.
How do you achieve a balance between your school work and the fairways?
I am currently in Grade 9 at the University of Johannesburg Metropolitan Academy (UJMA) and with the school being a predominantly, academic, secondary intuition, it is very difficult, so I try to study in the early mornings before starting school and utilise my time during the afternoon to hit the fairways and get in some practice sessions.
What are your goals for your golfing career?
To become Number 1 in the world and to break the record for winning the most Majors of all time. I would also like to be a sporting ambassador to humanity.
Have you ever met a famous golfer?
Yes, I have met a few South African Golfers, namely Heinrich Breiners and Jacquin Hess at the Eye of Africa Academy.
What is your motto?
Winners train … losers complain … if you cant think about it … don’t do it!
What is your advice to other junior golfers?
As a young junior golfer, do what your heart desires and have fun doing it, most of all doing the right thing is always difficult so work hard because nothing’s easy. Success is not just about winning but being happy and content with what you have ultimately achieved.
