Hello To a NEW YOU in 2022
By Coach Cands
A new year often signifies change and a decision to implement new healthy habits. A challenge that comes from this is that many of us approach New Year’s resolutions as a sprint, rather than a marathon. We set our sights on making a lot of changes all at once, unfortunately, ones that we can’t sustain. Rather than a sprint and expecting radical quick changes, why not view your goals as a marathon; focusing on habits you can consistently do every day to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself!
5 Tips for making your resolutions stick all year long
Acknowledge and Own Up To The Behaviour/Habit You Want To Change
In order to change bad habits and replace them with healthier ones, you first need to reflect on your current behaviour. What are you currently doing that is preventing you from reaching your goal? For instance, if you know that you never work out and watch too much TV, it’s important to acknowledge that habit and decide you want to change it.
Make Your Goals Reasonable
The first step in keeping a resolution is to make sure it’s reasonable in the first place. That’s a lot better than setting unrealistic goals and giving up a few weeks into the year.
Prioritise Your Goals
You may have a long list of goals for the year; what you need to do is prioritise them into a list of importance. Having too many goals can be overwhelming and can oftentimes be demotivating, causing you to forgo all your goals. Keep your list of goals manageable and in alignment with the time and resources, you have available to achieve them.
Practice New Habits and Keep Tabs on Yourself
Be patient – it takes a while for new habits to settle in and feel natural and comfortable. Keep track of the “measurables” that you included in your resolutions – eg, walked five times in a week, ate more greens etc. This will also make you feel great about yourself and motivate you to keep going.
Build a Support System
Accountability is the name of the game. Friends, family members and an online community can be tremendous sources of support. So, let those around you know what you intend to achieve. You are more likely to achieve a goal when you have a community supporting you along the way. If you are struggling to get into a new healthy routine, or perhaps need online support why not join my 10 Day Challenge?
