Introduction:
A golf club fitting is so much more than determining your specs – it’s about learning which shots you need and finding the right clubs to hit those shots. At Titleist, we focus on making sure that every metal, iron, and wedge in your bag is optimising your distance, dispersion, and decent angle – what we call the 3Ds – along with the ideal speed and distance gapping between each club.
Why is it so important to get custom fitted for golf clubs?
Every golfer is unique not only in physical features but how we swing the golf club and how we deliver that club to hit the golf ball. At Titleist, we provide a one-on-one fitting experience that is specifically curated to help golfers improve their game. We do that by ensuring your golf clubs are properly fitted for you so that you can maximize your swing potential. Some golfers believe they have to get to a certain level to get fit, but that’s the incorrect perception. I compare learning the game with wrong clubs to learning to ride a bicycle on a bike that’s way too small, or too big. Not only does poorly fit equipment lead you to poor swing development, but it also makes the game more frustrating, deterring you from even continuing on with the game. Beginners can often benefit more from club fitting than an experienced golfer and will improve more quickly.

What types of things will you look at in a club fitting?
Given that each golfer is unique in their swing, how they deliver the golf club into the ball will define what type of equipment they need. We will look at the head design, shaft flex, launch characteristics, spin, angle of attack, and club path among other measurable forces to optimize your golf clubs to fit your swing. Launch monitors are very advanced these days and can provide us with a fantastic insight into your swing that will allow us to adjust the equipment and the technology to help you hit the ball longer, straighter and more consistently.
Where do I start?
Titleist’s approach is to start from the green and work our way back to the tee box. In fact, a custom fitting should always start with the golf ball. Why? Well, it’s the only piece of equipment you use on every single shot. Playing a properly fitted golf ball will help you shoot lower scores. Next, we look at what we call the “scoring zone” which is from 100m and in. This is where golfers can make the biggest improvements based on the fact that approximately 70% of the game is played from 100m and closer. It is vital that you have a properly fitted putter and wedges to give the best chance of scoring or getting up and down to save shots. We then fit the irons to the golf ball by maximizing your distance, dispersion spin and ball striking to give you the best chance of finding greens. Lastly, we properly fit your driver and fairway metals to ensure you maximise distance and find fairways consistently.
Does Titleist offer custom fitting for Juniors?
Yes, absolutely. As with all Titleist fittings, golfer performance is our #1 priority. We use the same heads, shafts, grips and precision manufacturing processes as we do with every other Titleist club fitting. The fitting process stays true to our fitting methods with the goal of making golf more enjoyable for all junior golfers. At our National Fitting Centre and selected fitting partners we have fitting tools designed for Junior golfers to maximize their game, including shorter and lighter shafts and grips.
