The future is certainly looking bright for Golf RSA and leading women amateur Caitlyn Macnab. After finishing up her Matric, Caitlyn recently got a taste of tour life and a glimpse of the professional circuit when she scored 5 starts with the Ladies Sunshine Tour. Your home club: Serengeti Golf EstateWhen and how did you start playing golf? My Dad got me into the game. He took me to the driving range since before I could walk and I used to mess around with his clubs. He bought me my first set of clubs and I started to practice with him. I played in my first tournament on my fifth birthday, which was a US Kids Golf tournament, and I’ve slowly grown into the player I am today.School? I moved around quite a bit, but from grade 10 until matric last year, I was in home school. Other sports you have played?
I’ve pretty much done all that was available to me at school. I played tennis, netball, waterpolo, swimming, hockey, track and field and I made the provincial trials for soft ball.What was your favourite subject at school? I really enjoyed Biology.Favourite sport teams, that you follow? I love watching all sport, but a lot of it is individual, I suppose. My favourite teams at the moment would be the SA Women’s Cricket team, the Springboks and the USA Women’s Soccer team.Who is your golf coach? Grant Veenstra. What is your favourite food? It has to be my mom’s lasagne.What is your favourite golf club in your bag? I don’t have a favourite… the others would get jealous if I did… hahahahaha!Favourite music/band? I don’t have an outright favourite but I really enjoy Billy Eilish, Khalid, Bazzi and Goldfish.Who would be your dream four-ball? Annika Sorenstam, Tiger Woods and Ben Hogan.Who is your favourite golfer? Nelly Korda – she is an American professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour, where she has won four times.Favourite gym exercise? CyclingFavourite movie? With an 8 -shot victory at the Jabra Ladies Classic, a runner-up finish in the SuperSport Ladies Challenge and fourth in the Cape Town Ladies Open, before finishing as the leading amateur in the season-finale Investec South African Women’s Open. Caitlyn continued the fine form and won a sponsors invite into the Jabra Ladies Open in France, where she finished in the top 20 and we were fortunate to catch up with Caitlyn to see what lies ahead for this talented, friendly golfer.
