As we sadly bid farewell to summer and welcome the colder days it’s important to get a step ahead & start prioritising our immune system before the winter weather kicks in.
What we put into our body as well as how we care for it all contribute to a strong immune system. Maintaining healthy habits doesn’t always prevent illness from happening but it does help us to maintain a normal and healthy body system.
Here are wellness habits to support your immune system:
Maintain a balanced diet. Consume foods that are high in antioxidants such as berries, nuts, vegetables, beans etc. Antioxidants protect your body from potentially harmful molecules known as free radicals, which can accumulate and promote oxidative stress. Incorporate foods such as high-quality protein as well as omega 3 foods (avo, nuts, seeds).
Rest. Adults should aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per day. Focus on improving your bedtime habits that can help you attain better quality sleep.
Exercise regularly. Exercising regularly can have an anti-inflammatory impact on your body as well as improves immune regulation. Try to do physical activity for at least 30 minutes 5 times a week to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Drink enough water. Good hydration is important to maintain the balance of minerals and fluids that our immune system needs to work properly. Our body mass as adults is 70% water, so to keep our system working optimally it is essential to drink enough water daily.
